Nissan & Infiniti Key Technology, Generation by Generation
Nissan and Infiniti share the same corporate parent and much of the same key architecture. Older Nissans and Infinitis from before the late 1990s used plain mechanically-cut keys with no chip. From the late 1990s through the 2000s, most models transitioned to transponder (chip) keys, and many of these use a "combo key" design — a mechanical blade with an integrated remote and transponder in one piece, rather than a separate key and fob. More recently, many Nissan and Infiniti models, including newer Altima, Rogue, and most Infiniti sedans and SUVs, have moved to intelligent/proximity keys with push-button start.
Because combo keys and remotes are so common across the Nissan and Infiniti lineup, remote and combo-key programming is one of our regular jobs on these makes, priced separately from a plain standard key. We bring the equipment to identify the exact key configuration on your vehicle and program it on-site.
We confirm your Nissan or Infiniti's exact key configuration using its VIN and existing key or remote before cutting or programming anything, so you know the price up front rather than after the work is done.
ATD vs. the Dealership
A Nissan or Infiniti dealership can also cut and program keys, but usually only during business hours with your vehicle on their lot. We come to your Altima, Rogue, or Q50 wherever it is — home, work, or roadside — and typically finish in one visit, often for less than dealer pricing.

Models We Work On
We regularly handle key and remote work on popular models including the Nissan Altima, Rogue, Sentra, and Pathfinder, along with Infiniti Q50 and QX60, plus older Nissan and Infiniti cars and SUVs. Altima and Rogue calls are especially common given how many are on the road locally. Not seeing your model? Call with your year, make, and model for specifics.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Nissan or Infiniti key replacement cost?
Standard Nissan and Infiniti keys start at $165, and transponder (chip) keys start at $245. Remotes and combo keys — where the remote and mechanical key are combined into one unit — start at $195. Exact pricing depends on your model and year.
What is a combo key on a Nissan?
A combo key combines a mechanical key blade and a remote/transponder into a single unit, common on many Nissan models. We can cut and program these on-site starting at $195.
Does my Nissan or Infiniti use a chip key?
Most Nissans and Infinitis built since the late 1990s and early 2000s use transponder keys. Many newer models — particularly Altima, Rogue, and most Infiniti trims — use intelligent/proximity keys with push-button start.
Can you make an Altima or Rogue key if I lost all my keys?
Yes. All-keys-lost is a common call for Altimas and Rogues. We can cut and program a new key, remote, or combo key on-site using your vehicle's identification.
Do you cover Infiniti, not just Nissan?
Yes. Infiniti shares much of its key and immobilizer technology with Nissan, and we handle both makes.
My Nissan intelligent key won't unlock the doors — what's the issue?
That's usually a weak fob battery or a programming issue rather than a full failure. We can diagnose it on-site and reprogram or replace the key as needed.
