Why ATD Automotive exists

Getting locked out or losing a car key used to mean one option: tow the car to the dealership and pay dealer prices, on the dealer's schedule. Patrick and Dan started ATD Automotive to give drivers in Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois a better option — a mobile locksmith that comes to the car instead of the other way around, equipped to cut and program keys, fobs, and modules on-site, at a price that's usually well below what the dealer charges. That's the same reason the business works with car dealerships directly: dealers face the same key-origination and programming problems on trade-ins and auction vehicles that individual drivers face with their own cars.

Genoa City — on the line, by design

Genoa City sits directly on the Wisconsin–Illinois border. Basing the business here isn't incidental — it means no long dispatch delay to either state and no artificial divide between "Wisconsin customers" and "Illinois customers." Not a call center

A lot of the "locksmith" results you'll find searching online aren't local businesses at all — they're lead-generation call centers that take your information, quote a low price to get you off the phone, and dispatch whichever subcontractor is available, sometimes from far outside the area. How to spot a lead-gen locksmith scam

This is a real, documented problem in the locksmith industry, and ATD Automotive has publicly warned local customers about it on our Facebook page. A few warning signs to check before you call any "local locksmith" number online:

• No verifiable local address. A real local business can point to a town, a business listing, and reviews tied to that location. Networks of city-stamped websites often list no address at all, or one that doesn't match where the business claims to operate.
• Bait pricing. A rock-bottom quote on the phone (sometimes $15–$25 for "any lockout") that turns into a much higher price once a technician arrives is a classic lead-gen tactic. Compare any quote to a published price list before agreeing.
• Out-of-state or unclear licensing. Some of these networks operate multiple "local" sites from a single out-of-state call center, sometimes with licensing details that don't match the state they claim to serve.
• Generic, duplicated website content. If the same page template shows up under a dozen different "city" domain names with only the town name swapped, it's not a local business — it's a directory of interchangeable landing pages.
• Vague or unverifiable reviews. Look for reviews you can trace to a real, established profile — BBB, Yelp, Google, Facebook — rather than a star rating with no way to see who left it.
